bring back the days
of freedom and independence.
when life was ours for the taking
we were kings and queens of our little world.
fighting fearsome pirates
searching for buried treasure
chivalrous knights in shining armour
saving damsels in distress from far off castles
from voracious fire breathing dragons.

the sun bathed us with its warm rays
as we baked in the heat of summer
drinking icy lemonades
as one adventure led us to another
days spent with neighbourhood friends and you.

as the sun would sink slowly in the sky
mothers would summon us home for dinner
and we reluctantly obeyed.
because of the next day's promise that the sun would rise again
and for our next adventure tofind us.

you and me would always linger
you,my knight and shining armour
my,your princess who you saved just hours ago from a dragon who captured me
we would linger to watch the sun's finale of the day
as you would paint the sky with red,pink and orange bands of light.

we talked about the future
we talked about dreams
both of us on the brink of change
both of us knew,but neither of us spoke it out loud.

that summer,
i moved away to a country further away than Guangzhou
years past and i unfortunately grew up.

those summer days faded
into the safe-keeping of my memory
where my innocence still lives
my 13th summer brought me back
to my childhood
of summers of freedom and independence
of adventures and lemonades
of laughter and love
of knights in shining armour and damsels in distress
